We scroll, we like and we post but we are not free. The
modern humans do not wear chains of slavery; we carry it in our pockets. We
have become slaves by choice, silently and happily and we have started to love
or selves being slaves. The worst part is that we don’t even realize it.
Everyone thinks that social media gives them a voice but in
reality their thoughts are filtered, shaped and sold. There are different
people on social media with different thoughts and we don’t know which opinion
to follow because everyone has a different opinion regarding anything. We watch
one influencer, then the other and after watching all of them, we start to
think which one was right about the specific event happening at that time.
Actually, we are not posting, we are performing. We may feel free but our every
swipe is being programmed.
We used to scroll to pass time but now we scroll to escape
our lives and by lives I mean getting rid of everything, it has become our
excuse for us to not do anything. We don’t realize but this our generation has
become one of the most obedient generation of digital slaves. We are addicted, distracted and willingly
controlled. They do not need whips, they just need a screen and we walk into
that trap right away every single day.
Social media was supposed to connect us but it has hollowed
us from inside. We have a lot of friends on social media but we have no one to
talk to at midnight. We double tap at strangers but we forget to hug our
mothers. We spend hours crafting captions yet we forgot to speak honestly in
real life. We post to impress, not to express. We worship filters, numbers and
reels. We follow people who make us hate ourselves quietly. We all have been
trapped in a world where everyone is better than us but in reality that is not
the truth because everyone possesses different traits and qualities, everyone
is beautiful in the way they are if they start looking at things from the
positive side. The scary part is that we all are aware of this truth but we
still don’t stop.
We are not users anymore, we are the product. Our attention
is sold and our behavior is shaped. Our confidence is crushed and then sold
back to us in the form of ads and influencers. We don’t realize how we are
being programmed.
We are losing the ability to sit with our thoughts, the
skill of holding real conversations, the strength to focus deeply, the power of
privacy and the meaning of presence and worst of all we are losing ourselves.
You don’t need to delete everything, but you need to wake
up. You should use social media instead of letting it use you.
1.
Start posting with purpose.
2.
Start scrolling with awareness.
3.
Take back your time, mind and your soul.
Slavery does not always come in shackles, sometimes it comes
with a Wi-Fi.
If you don’t control your screen, it will control your
story.
